Year built 1994
Location of boat Grapevine, Texas
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength Select one
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2020
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely!
Gear that's been added New sails, airfoil rudder, traveler, jib sheet rails, quick-release rudder hold-down cleat, storage additions and improvements, 2nd battery, 12V inverter.
Structural or complex improvements Altered trailer winch mount to allow use of winch for stepping and un-stepping mast.
The boat's best features Ease of trailerability, overall maneuverability, ease of maintenance, performs well across a range of wind conditions.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Rudder hold-down cable breaks easily. Quick-release hold-down cleat has cured that.
Sailing characterisitcs Boat points reasonably well, accelerates quickly, performs well with stock sail setup. Outsails most other boats.
Motoring characterisitcs Tohatsu 8-horse two-stroke provides plenty of dependable power, and achieves 7 knots at 90% throttle. Sips gas.
Liveability OK for a few nights, but not a live-on boat. Low headroom, tight quarters, no shower, bare-bones galley if you could call it that.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments Hard to imagine a boat better suited for us. Trailering to and sailing on various lakes in Texas, spending a few nights, then coming back to the marina in Grapevine (Scotts Landing) where we stay docked most of the time. Maintenance costs are minimal due the ease of hauling out, availability of parts (thanks, Blue Water Yachts!), and user-friendly design. We CONSTANTLY get compliments on the boats looks. If I could wave my magic wand, I would give it an open transom with a swim deck, but aside from that, the boat is ideal for our needs and desires.
