Review of the Macgregor 26M by Ralph Cram

Year built 2011
Location of boat Mid Michigan
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2011
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it is good value for the price. It is easy to trailer. I keep it in my driveway during the winter. It does what I want it to do.
Gear that's been added Nicor solar vent in the head.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Shoal draft.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Had wires come out from behind headliner. Fixed by putting flexable auto conduit arount it. It is flexible enough that you can push it up past the edge of.the headliner and it will stay. Latch on t,he sliding galley unit broke about 2months after getting the boat. One time when sailing in a brisk breeze (20 - 25 mph) the connector for the upper shroud came undone. Fortunately the lower shroud held and we got the sails down in a hurry! I have replaced the keepers in the pins wiyh O rings. So far so good.
Sailing characterisitcs Sail mostly in light to moderate breezes. It has plenty of sail for these conditions.
Motoring characterisitcs Handles well under power with board up. I have a 60hp Evenrude. I wish I had just gotten a 50 hp at the most.
Liveability It is fine for weekend camping, definitely not a boat for living aboard unless camping is your thing.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought it from Bill beers at Boats 4 Sail. Have been very satisfied with that dealer. He knows his stuff. He sells an add on package which is very good for people like myself who do a lot of single handed sailing.
