Review of the Macgregor 26M by Kathy Goodwin

Year built 2011
Location of boat Cleveland, Ohio
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2011
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Wish I had bought it sooner! Didn't start sailing until I was 61 so I had a lot of catching up to do. The 26M is easy for an older person to sail and maintain. Buying from Bill Beers @ Boats4Sail saved me a lot of money and the trip to Wisconsin from Cleveland was fun!
Gear that's been added Bimini..only used when working on boat for shade, 50hp Yamaha 4 Stroke, just ordered a 150% Genoa to sail faster in light wind and of course the Bill Beers package that makes the boat so easy to run and enables non-sailors to participate with ease. Garmin GPS with depth sounder and marine radio, electrical plugs for fans and chargers as well as 12v receptacle.
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features The safety features make me feel very confident, the size is perfect, the helm is good for short people to see over the boat, the space below deck is more than adequate.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The winch on the trailer needed to be upgraded to a heavier one and I haven't conquered the shroud adjusters yet but I will.
Sailing characterisitcs New to sailing and first sailboat so we're still getting to know each other..I'm getting better at finding the "groove" where wind, skipper and sails all come together in harmony.
Motoring characterisitcs Love to put the sails down and take guests on tour of Cleveland Harbor and up the Cuyahoga River. Leave the ballast in but raise daggerboard and rudders and go 10 knots when out on the lake.
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The experience of buying the boat from Bill Beers in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin is not to be missed. He is a great teacher, conversationalist and more than fair in all of his dealings..wish I could sail with him one day.
