If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I have wanted to buy a MacGregor 26S since 1992 and finally I own one.
Gear that's been added I purchased a 3.3 cubic foot fridge and will be installing an Eagle 502C depth finder with GPS and chart plotter.
Structural or complex improvements None so far.
The boat's best features Trailerability, being able to pull it right up to shore, positive floatation, ease of raising and lowering the mast, water balast works well.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing has given me any problems as yet.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails well.
Motoring characterisitcs Motors great!
Liveability Some people think it is cramped but I find it quite comfortable.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have not dealt with MacGregor directly as yet but may have to in the future as I may want to buy some optional equipment.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I purchased my boat through Super Sport Marine in Kearney Nebraska. I found the boat advertised on SailBoatOwners.com and sent an email to Mr. John Gerber at Super Sport Marine. I put a deposit on the boat in December or January and asked John to hold the boat till April 1/2008 as that would be the only time I would be able to come down to Kearney Nebraska from Thompson Manitoba. My friend and I picked up the boat on April 1/2008 and I was amased at how the boat was exactly as pictured in the add. Everything in the cabin was in exactly the same place as in the photos. Mr. John Gerber had all the paper work in order, right down to papers for any recalls on the trailer, which could have been very costly at the border if you don't have them. He lent me a dealer plate for the trailer, made sure the trailer was up to making the long trip back to Canada and was just a real nice person. The boat was exactly as addvertised, nothing was missing, no damage or surprises. I thank Mr. John Gerber and Super Sport Marine for thier extreme honesty and integrity.
Other comments I love it and will name it soon.
