Review of the Macgregor 25 by hutera

Year built 1987
Location of boat lake mille lacs minnesota
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I would buy this boat again. The swing keel makes it possible to sail where other boats cannot. My main reason for buying this macgregor was price. They are reasonable for the size. I doubt you will find a better boat in this size range for the same money. She is simple to rig and simple to sail. It only takes about 30 mins to set it up once you have done it a few times.
Gear that's been added I have added a sunsei 6w solar panel for charging the battery.
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features she is light and sails well. Nice sized cockpit. I believe the macgregor 25 is more roomy in the cockpit then the 26
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. the electrical system that comes with the boat is pretty basic. I would prefer something a little more advanced with shore power ect. All of these features you can add yourself though.
Sailing characterisitcs she is easy to sail. I wish she would handle a little better with sailing only with a jibe. I beleive it's the swing keel that prevents this from happening.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 8hp johnson sailmaster. She does the job perfect ;)
Liveability she is basically your normal 25 foot boat. Plenty of place to sleep in the births. This boat is like all others in lacking storage places for gear. I usurally use a birth or two with my gear.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) i have not
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any ebay purchase "drive a little save alot"
Other comments like I said earlier. She is easy to sail and easy to rig. If you a are looking to adventure into a boat of this size I would buy a macgregor 25.
