Review of the Macgregor 23 by Dale

Year built 1974
Location of boat Sonora, Ca
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Even though I've only owned her for a couple months, and have had her out twice(3 days first time and 4 the other)I'm happy as I can be. Absolutely I would.
Gear that's been added Cobra 55 VHF, Eagle fishfinder, XM stereo
Structural or complex improvements I built an A-frame set-up for stepping the mast singlehanded.
The boat's best features Easy to sail, easy to trailer, and the swing keel makes her greta for what I do.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. So far,, nada.
Sailing characterisitcs The only problem I've encountered so far is holding a course in a close haul, she wants to pull to wind.
Motoring characterisitcs Excellent with my 6 horse Johnson. I did have to cut 2" off the mount, it's a med. length motor(20")
Liveability Not very livable with two people, but GREAT for one. The Admiral and I can enjoy 2-3 days at a time easy enough.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Purchased from a private party.
Other comments This is my first "real" sailboat and I couldn't have picked a better one.
