Review of the Macgregor 26M by PHILIP JONES

Year built 2006
Location of boat St Marys, GA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2006
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, definitely.
Gear that's been added 1500w inverter, House battery (2 6v Trojan T-105s), Battery charger, LED lighting, compass, 12v DC outlets on pedestal, Hawkeye depth instrument (shoot thru hull), gas BBQ, topping lift, pota potty, mainsail slides, replaced alot of bolts/nuts with pins,
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Simplicity in design and operation.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Don't like the head floor. Stringer tunnel requires a foundation to be built up for a porta potty. Wish it was flush flat. Could fit a marine head in easy than a Sannipottie.
Sailing characterisitcs Newbie, But it's not as "tender" as everyone says. Not alot of heavy blows and I'm sailing conservatively as I learn the ropes.
Motoring characterisitcs A wet ride over 16 mph. Rides firm in 1-2 ft chop unballasted. Lots of freeboard means lots of windage at low speed. Low speed must have daggerboard down a foot or so. A 50 hp Honda gives alot of power to move around as needed.
Liveability Head room in head is lacking. Rest of boat has lots of space for the money. Sliding galley??? I'm still making up my mind. Sleeping comfort is good. Lots of room. Four adults would be pushing it. V berth is okay for large kids, but two adults would be cramped.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Friendly and responsive.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought from Jim Allred at "The Sailboat Centre". A straight shooter who delivers. Would recommend to anyone looking to buy in the SE region.
Other comments Good value for the money, easy to learn to sail, A good platform to customize to your own liking. Lots of owner support, a fun hobby and good getaway tool.
