Review of the Macgregor 26D by Chris Impinna

Year built 1989
Location of boat Colusa, Ca
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2006
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely. I had a 1987 Mac 26 that I bought brand new. My children grew up sailing on that boat and I was sad to have sold it in the early 90's. This "newer" boat is in great shape. The hull construction and deck is excellent. Macgregor may have built these bots with economy in mind, but they have helt the test of time.
Gear that's been added Since it is new to me, I have just inventoried the boat and made a list of items to get including a new rudder and new halyeards, etc.
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features Ease of trailering, set up, launching, sailing, and maintenance. Cost is definitely a factor. After researching alot of other boats, I could find no other comparable 25-26 footers that were trailer sailors in my price range. I consider this boat to be an exceptional value.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. nothing wrong
Sailing characterisitcs Have had it out one so far in the few weeks I have owned it. nothing to realy say.
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I'll write more later after I have owner her for 6 months or so.
