Review of the Macgregor 25 by Ron Postlethwait

Year built 1986
Location of boat Ellenton FL>
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 5-6
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I would buy a mac again in a flash...
Gear that's been added added 9.9 outboard 8D jell cell battery, power wench for keel, bilge pump
Structural or complex improvements Moved battery to under v berth Put in a rear deck in cockpit about 2 ft. wide it covers my gas tank and is a good place to stand and bar-b-que.
The boat's best features A forgiving boat to sail with plenty of cabin space..
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs Boat sails well in most weather...I'm not racing so if I go a little slow I don't care...If I wanted fast I'd have a speed boat.... I have been in winds to 40 mph and sees to 5 FT and never felt the boat was in danger..It takes big water very well I think. It always gets me home.
Motoring characterisitcs 9.9 will move it along at 7 mph at 1/2 throtle I get 10 mpg
Liveability a camper with sails. Good for a weekend or a week for 2 people.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) very good
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
