Review of the Macgregor 26X by wbemis

Year built 1967
Location of boat southeast texas
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes
Gear that's been added roller furler, air conditioning, mega sound system
Structural or complex improvements i'm considering a 90hp upgrade (which i've seen on line but not in person). advice sought at wbemis@wcnet.net if you have thoughts, especially concerning coast guard hull rating and insurance exposure.
The boat's best features i've had several cabin cruiser type boats so this is a good way to motor and sail and still have a nicely enclosed cabin.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. that dinosaur of a seat behind the helm has to go as soon as I figure out a better way to build one. i pretty much hate that clunker of a cabin door also.
Sailing characterisitcs i am a very unpure sailor, couldn't care less if something else sails better. aroung corpus christi where the winds are strong and constant everything seems to even out. farther north along the coast the shallow draft comes into play. better than bad.
Motoring characterisitcs doesn't handle well in any kind of cross wind, hitting the trailer or a slip is a real adventure in windy conditions.
Liveability i'm a fairly athletic 54 years old and not nearly acrobatic enough to sleep in the rear bunk. it ended up full of fishing rods and future projects.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any bought from a private owner, but dealers around texas i've dealt with have been fine.
Other comments any upgrades or modificatons to help on mast raising and sail hanlding could/shoud be passed along to owners of record that would like to make our boats better.
