Review of the Macgregor 24 by Steve McDonald

Year built 1971
Location of boat Superior WI
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, very nice boat for a first boat.
Gear that's been added added a GPS and depth finder
Structural or complex improvements My wife redid all the cussions, added curtians
The boat's best features Easy to handle. I singlehandle her all the time in 10 plus knot winds, piece of cake.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing
Sailing characterisitcs Still getting use to the Genoa, find it hard to work with when I'm ou by myself. With the large jib out by myself we work fine together.
Motoring characterisitcs I have an older 5 hp on the boat and would like to move up to a 10hp. Find it hard sometimes to get out of the breakwaters and on to Lake Superior.
Liveability Cozy
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have not dealt with them
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments We love it. Some day we will move up to a 30 footer, but for now it is great, been out 20 times already this year and its just the mid. of July.
