Review of the Macgregor 19 by Michael Gulbranson

Year built 1993
Location of boat Seattle Washington
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I would it worked as an all around boat, my kids learned to wakeboard, and water ski behind our 19. When they where finished with their fun I would go sailing by myself.
Gear that's been added Oh, yes I have added a 13 gallon water bladder, electric water pump and new facet. I just installed a pair of performance rudders, 12v electrical power board; anchor light, 110v power circuit, battery charger, vhf radio, and 50hp Nissan direct injection motor.
Structural or complex improvements I installed a mounting bracket to all me to have my depth sounder swing out of the way, to make it easier to see and store.
The boat's best features It is a great all around boat. Its fast when I want to get back to the dock, it sails ok hopefully it will point better into the wind with the new rudders.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. It’s very hard to pull wire through the boat to add lighting. I have had a couple of area crack that required me to have it repaired.
Sailing characterisitcs In light wind it’s not very responsive, my little Mac wants wind speeds of 10 - 15 knots to sail firm. If you’re in fast current you will need at least 10 knots of wind to over come the current.
Motoring characterisitcs My boat with the 50 horse power Nissan direct injection will do 25 mph. Slow speed tight maneuvering requires that the swing keel be in the down position.
Liveability I'm 5'9 when I use the head I have to stretch to make sure my muscle don't lock when I uses the head, but it is useable for weekends.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I bought my boat from Blue Water Yachts, in Seattle.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any My dealer is the greatest, if you need help they are their there to help. It's worth the drive to buy your next boat from them.
Other comments Great boat, fun to for the whole family or just by myself.
