Review of the Macgregor 22 by CHARLES CORNETT

Year built 1980
Location of boat ARKANSAS CITY, KS
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES
Gear that's been added NONE
Structural or complex improvements PLAN TO IMPROVE CABIN APPEARANCE IN FUTURE. MAY ADD JIB BOOM FOR EASE OF SAILING. MAY BUILD A STOW AWAY GALLEY.
The boat's best features EASE OF TRAILERING, LAUNCHING, AND HANDLING.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. NO PROBLEMS SO FAR, BUT I'VE ONLY OWNED IT FOR 4 MONTHS.
Sailing characterisitcs IT HANDLED WELL WHEN I SAILED IT IN HEAVY WEATHER FOR THE FIRST TIME 12-27-05. I WAS VERY NERVOUS SINCE I AM A BEGINNER AND HAVE SAILED MY V-22 ONLY 4 TIMES. I SAILED WITHOUT THE JIB. I HAD ONE FIRST-TIME PASSENGER ON BOARD. IT SEEMS TO BE PRETTY FAST.
Motoring characterisitcs THE 4 HORSEPOWER IS A LITTLE LIGHT FOR STRONG WINDS, BUT I LIKE THE LIGHT WEIGHT AND I DON'T WANT TO GO TO A HEAVIER ENGINE.
Liveability I PLAN TO LIVE ABOARD IN A COUPLE OF YEARS WHEN I RETIRE, BUT MY 22 IS TOO SMALL FOR ME AND MY WIFE. I WOULD TRY IF I WERE ALONE TO LIVE ON MY 22.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
