Review of the Macgregor 21 by Greg S.

Year built 1968
Location of boat Turner, Oregon
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely. I got a great deal and it sails like a dream. It points well and is easy to handle.
Gear that's been added Added an outboard
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Lightweight, fast, lots of cockpit space
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The keel pivot leaked at first, but it was just loose.
Sailing characterisitcs This boat points extremely well, it's stable with the keel up and even more stable with the keel down. Reaches are fun, and downwind performance is good but gets better with a whisker pole. The roller furling of the main is a pain, but it works.
Motoring characterisitcs With a 3.5hp Nissan the boat will do 4.5 - 5.5 knots at half throttle or above, depending on wind and current.
Liveability Probably not much, weekend at most.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments A great boat off E-Bay for not much money.
