Review of the Macgregor 25 by Darrel Timmins

Year built 1979
Location of boat My Back Yard
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? In a Heartbeat. Macs get a bad rap because there were so many of them produced. However, in my opinion that means that they are doing something right.
Gear that's been added A Trailer hitch extension, a Cunningham control, boom vang, jib down haul, VHF, enclosed head, with many more to follow
Structural or complex improvements Besides redesigning the running rigging..... no, none yet. I want to replace all stand rigging, it has a few meathooks but I want to replace it befor a failure occures.
The boat's best features Affordability, and versatility
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing yet we try to keep the boat in tip top shape to ensure safty while afloat.
Sailing characterisitcs Still learning her, We sailed an 18ft buc. Talk about a difference.
Motoring characterisitcs No problems from the boat just the darn 2 stroke
Liveability HA I have three small kids . Me and My wife will enjoy it I am sure of that
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very Friendly
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any n/a
Other comments We did ALOT of research and deceided on the 25. It is What we wanted A Real Sail Boat( swing keel)
