Review of the Macgregor 25 by John Hartle

Year built 1987
Location of boat Lake Clarke,Sequananna River
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes;however the jury is still out since I have not sailed on it yet.
Gear that's been added I put a mushroom vent in to get some ventilation in the cabin. I added two side rails for added safety going forward. I added a clip for the boat hook as the deck does not provide any room.
Structural or complex improvements NO
The boat's best features Appears be be easily trailable.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. None
Sailing characterisitcs Have not yet sailed on it.
Motoring characterisitcs Have not used.
Liveability Have not lived on it yet.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Not very good. I was trying to get the weight of the trailer for registration purposes and the people at MacGregor were not very cooperative. They apparently subcontract out their trailers and therefore are reluctant to give any information out on them.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Not applicable.
Other comments I would like to know if the mast hoisting bar provided is worth using. It attaches onto the mast on the fore deck. I've never used one and am used to just hoisting the mast from the rear. Is the mast managable by on person to hoist?
