Review of the Macgregor 26X by greg

Year built 2000
Location of boat kansas
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes, perfect fit for the quick get away
Gear that's been added jib furler, better anchor
Structural or complex improvements shimmed the rudders to improve effectivenessspace
The boat's best features cabin space, setup, wheel control to the motor, ability to control the boat alone from the cockpiti
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I think the rudders could be more effective if they were larger.
Sailing characterisitcs so far I've only sailed it on a kansas lake with up to 15kt winds and gusts to 20 or so. the boat seems very contollable but a little more rudder tacking might be useful. Or I simply need more experience.
Motoring characterisitcs Very straight forward.
Liveability Comfortable
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I did not deal with MacGregor.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any It was avery pleasant experience. Lots of help and extra care to make sure I would be able to safely sail the boat.
Other comments Its still very new to us and we are not sailors even though I sailed some 25 years ago. I find the Macgregor to be the perfect boat for novice sailors like ourselves. The boat is very stable and we were able to enjoy it almost immediately without the need for weeks of sailing lessons. (although we did take some lessons and had professional help with rigging and equipment)
