Review of the Macgregor 23 by jerry pilcher

Year built 1972
Location of boat panama city fl
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1983
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes, I love my little boat
Gear that's been added The usual radios, auto helm, stereo
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features Beautiful design in the 23 Newport, Workmanship in the construction, over the last 20 plus years I,ve been around boat yards and yacht clubs all along the Gulf coast, I've seen million dollar yachts with blisters all over the hull, I've never had one.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No big problems, I knew the sails were weak when I got it, 20 years ago, so 9 years ago I got all new Neil Pride sails.
Sailing characterisitcs Up wind was not to good before the new sails, much better now
Motoring characterisitcs excellent
Liveability Having owned it for 20 plus years I've made many little changes, most recently an air conditioning system the size of a drink cooler that runs off a 12 volt battery
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Never have, wanted to go to the plant last time I was out there, but other commitments prevented it, maybe next time.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any n/a
Other comments boats name is Mello, she is my best buddy.
