Review of the Macgregor 26X by Ken Lockhart

Year built 2001
Location of boat indianapolis
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No, this boat was a dog a far as sailing is concerned, I sold the boat after 10 mos. and I now own a 1996 Hunter 26. I believed all the marketing BS from Macgregor and it cost me about $5000. The money I lost when I sold the boat. This was the 3 rd Mac that I had purchased and I was not happy with the way the boat sailed. Although I have heard the 26M sails better. The best thing that Macgregor has going for them is the dedicated owners over the years. I am not saying it was a bad boat, but just not for me.
Gear that's been added Many
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features It can go faster with a motor.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Tacks like a log.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability Cockpit too small and head only works if your 5 ft tall and weigh 90lbs
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) They are informitive, but don't offer much
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Dealer was great
Other comments Save your money, buy a used Hunter 26, much nicer boat
