Review of the Macgregor 22 by Ed

Year built 1980
Location of boat My back pasture
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I love my boat, but, I would probably go for the Mac 26.
Gear that's been added
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features I like the fact that it is virtually unsinkable, and very easy to sail. This is especially important as I had never sailed before I got her.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The bow stop on the trailer is a joke. There is no such thing as loading her up and having the bow of the boat nestled into the bow stop the way it should be for trailering. The result is that the front of the boat bounces up and down when driving down the highway, and the 3 or 4 inches that it is set back changes the tongue weight and causes the trailer to walk a little bit.
Sailing characterisitcs Very easy going in just about any kind of wind. In fact the stronger the wind blows, the more easy and stable she seems to become.
Motoring characterisitcs Well I have a 5hp Evinrude Angler and it surprised me how good it moves across the water with such little hp.
Liveability No way I could live on her. She's just to cramped and you have to walk like the hunchback of Notre Dame to move around in her. Sleeping quarters are a little to tight also.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I Love the Macgregor boats.
