Review of the Macgregor 26X by Ekkehard Kolesch

Year built 2000
Location of boat Penticton B.C. Canada
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes very much so. I am not an experienced sailor and my Dinghy sailing days were decades ago. Took a Basic Sailing course a couple of years ago and when I put my second hand MacGregor in the water my biggest problem was the motoring, not the sailing!
Gear that's been added Installed second Battery incl. combiner as it seemed to be a good idea to have one battery for the house and the other reserved for the starter. Installed an electric pump for domestic water in the galley and the head.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features It is easy to sail, and with the 50hp motor can get me out of trouble fast!!!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The rigging is not conducive for single hand sailing. I will need to bring it back nearer the helm. However as all the lines feed to the cockpit and with roller furling I will never (I hope) have to leave the cockpit. This is important for an older fellow!

Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability I had to laugh when I read the description of 'sleeps six'. The six must be very very close. Overnight trips are ok for two Adults and possibly a couple of kids. Day sailing is great for 4 adults maximum 5. Any more and it gets crowded
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought it privately in Seattle.
