Review of the Macgregor 19 by David Boylan

Year built 1978
Location of boat Saint Augustine Fl
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I would buy it again. The previous owner obvisilly never sailed her but used the motor and went fishing. It took a month to get her rigged and ready to sail and we are still working the kinks out but she is a pleasure to sail.
Gear that's been added We have added shore power to her for fans and a Tv while in the marinia. Like I ststed above she was not used as a sailer when we got her so we are added more storeage racks and curtains and such to make her more liveable.
Structural or complex improvements Yes, we inforeced the bow pulpit....due to not moaring her right one time. The tide here drops over 5 feet from high to low and she got caught under the dock and puched the hull bracket though the deck.
The boat's best features The swing keel is a great feature. Also the fact this boat has no wood in it's design makes it a breaze to keep clean.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I would love the keel crack and lock bolt to be easier to use. I'm thinking of adding a electric wrench.
Sailing characterisitcs We are new with her but we have had her around 4 miles off shore and can't wait to tak her for a weekend.
Motoring characterisitcs We have a 9.9hp merc. I lock the foward and use the rudder most the time. It works well to use both when docking into our slip. ( It's tight and we are the smallest in the marinia)
Liveability TIGHT
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) have not
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I can't wait to up grade..thinking a new M26 wouold be way COOL!!!
