Review of the Macgregor 25 by Dan Davis

Year built 1982
Location of boat Cincinnati Ohio
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, this boat is a rugged explorer that is built to last. 100% sail boat 25% cost.
Gear that's been added I have added a jib haul down line for added control along with new cam cleats for the main, jib, and formentioned hauldown line. Also new harken equipment in place of originals- everything was replaced!
Structural or complex improvements Non necessary
The boat's best features There is very little that is fragile or breakable. With 3 children its a real comfort.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The original equipment (blocks and such) were subpar.
Sailing characterisitcs Out standing performance in varied wind conditions. This boat can realy get up go when summoned.
Motoring characterisitcs 9.9 mercury with elec start and generator have been more than ample for propulsion and for batt charging.
Liveability great weekender not a liveaboard
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Ive not had the pleasure
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments Having looked at a variety of boats including a Catalina 25 I chose the Mac 25. Being an inland lake sailer I needed to consider how often I would be using it,and how it would fit in with my family. Also weight and trailerablity were factors. The Mac 25 was a match for my lifestyle and has been alot of fun!
