If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I have been following MacGregors since the mid 80's. I have always been intrigued with the ability to trailer a decent size sail boat and the Macs seemed to have the most in convience, swing keel, head (porta poti), stove and sink, along with sleeping room. Mine unfortunately does not have the sink or stove, but this just gives us a bit more seating room below deck. Since I have gotten this boat and have sailed her, I have discovered just how forgiving she actually is on the water. A wonderful boat to have.
Gear that's been added I have replaced the standing block on the starboard side, the fiddle block and the main haylard block and the brake winch for the keel. On the mian haylard block, I ended up removing the cheek block from the port side of the mast, drilled a 1/4" hole through the mast crane and placed a new block in direct alighment with the sail. It added about 3/4" rise to the sail. I still need to replace all lines on the boat, the foresail block and port side sheet block. I have also added an Evenrude 5hp 4 stroke motor. I would like to locate a Genoa for this boat, it did not come with one when we bought it.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features The ease of sailing her. This boat is a great beginner boat. Easy to learn in, forgiving (as stated), roomy for large people I'm 6'2" 250 pounds.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I would like to get a different rudder.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat seems to love to sail close haul.
Motoring characterisitcs I was actually surprised how well the 5hp motor was able to move it around.
Liveability I am still a resturant and nice motel type of a person.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have already spoken to a MacGregor and have expressed how much I am enjoying the boat.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments The boat is frugal not cheap.
