Owner bought the boat in 1993
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, however, the condition that I purchased the boat was fair, the boat needed some work. I was inexperienced at the time. But it was a good boat for starters and then some. Do your research and then do some realtime sightseeing. This is a trailer boat so check the trailer also. I stepped out of a 15' sailboat(s) into this and I'm not sorry.
Gear that's been added Yes, I've added new hatch teak slide trim, all lines aft, new blocks, hardware, new furler genoa w/cover, mainsail reefing system + reef points! running and standing rigging upgraded, horseshoe buoy, antiskid edging on coamings, auto bilge.
Structural or complex improvements reinforced stanchions and mast w/ backingplates.electrical upgrades , weatherproofing of hatches, internal fuel line feed for outboard
The boat's best features swift, controllable, easy to sail, good all points of sail, try a spinaker in light air. Easy to launch. near coastal and bay. easy to power. very responsive.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. the original roller mainsail too sloppy, had to change to standard rope foot and nylon slugs for the mast slot. Some effort in mast raising too, good if you have help. Manual keel winch could be changed to electric (keel wt 400#). Trailer needs better bunks, had to add side posts for cross currents
Sailing characterisitcs she tracks good, but show weatherhelm if overpowered in heavy winds, you must depower the sails. remember your draft is 5'6" when fully extended.
Motoring characterisitcs engines are noisy, even the gas Honda. Keep it reliable.
Liveability not really, just overnight, weekend.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) somewhat helpful.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
