Review of the Macgregor 26X by fabrizio

Year built 2001
Location of boat boston
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength Press here to select
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? given the value for the money I would buy it again.
Gear that's been added Mast raising gear, Compass, Depth speed, VHF, shore power, Roller furling, Motor Remote on pedestal.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features water ballast, adjustable centerboard, Roomy interior.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The centerboard is hard to place in the lowered position, but it eventually goes. With an 18hp tohatsu, it seems very difficult to approach a dock on the starboard side, the boat is less manuverable with the engine only and the rudders up.
Sailing characterisitcs It is a far more stable boat than I expected, given the absence of a solid keel, it sails really well. with the jib and main you need quite some wind to get past 5 knots.
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability very liveable, you just need to find the room for your extra stuff
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
