Review of the Macgregor 22 by Eric Pratt

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again?	Now with more experiance, and wanting to go for extended periods of time looking back I would prefer the Mac 25 or one of the 26 versions The 22 is a great fun little vessel. Once stayed aboard for 2 weeks visiting the gulf islands of BC. and found things a wee bit cramped. All the storage places under the bunks were filled and found it a pain when I needed to get something. With a recent additon to the family (90 lb Golden Reteiver, which loves to go sailing by the way), we are now on the look out for a 26 powersailer. I will fondly miss our 22 as we had many a great time on her.PS, one thing I noticed while summer cruising we could almost dock any where as most marinas on our journeys (most of the time) had space for the 22
Gear that's been added	Had a Merc 4hp when bought, sold the 4hp, and in its place a 7.5 Honda 4 stroke, seemed a lot quieter and smoother running outboard. Installed a depth sounder, and found very usefulland installed a self tending Jib Boom.
Structural or complex improvements	Added more flotation to transom area, just to keep the motor out of the water incase the boat filled up with water
The boat's best features	Secure in knowing that she will not go to the bottom in case holed, hit a power pole size log once.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.	Keel winch has given some problems, after winching the keel up I always give the winch and cable a soaking with WD40 found this improved things a lot.
Sailing characterisitcs	Handles well with a 150 genoa in really light winds.
Motoring characterisitcs	With motor running full out I can hear the keel winch cable humming. I could never seem to solve this problem
Liveability	Very comfortable when I single handled, but with 2 and the new dog it is quite cramped.
