Review of the Macgregor 21 by GLENN

Year built 1975
Location of boat Melbourne ,Australia
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Racing
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes
Gear that's been added no
Structural or complex improvements Complete rig change. Now has a 24foot carbon fibre tappered mast with a 180 sq, foot fully battened main and a 120 sq,foot headsail. Also a 325 sq.foot spinnaker. She points incredibly high now and plans off the wind at a moments notice. She is also stiffer to sail due to the extremely light rig.
The boat's best features One of the best boats I've ever sailed.Very fast, very stable and sea worthy even when being pushed in extreme condtions. Beautifully balanced even with different sail configurations.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Safty lines were removed from the boat very quickly,we found them to low to work and fantastic to trip over:)
Sailing characterisitcs A explained above.
Motoring characterisitcs Great, very easily driven in all conditions even with my very light 3.5 hp.
Liveability A little limited, the lack of head room is it's greatest draw back, every thing else is ok for overnighters etc.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any n/a
Other comments Yep. Should have got one years ago.
