Review of the Macgregor 26X by Armando

Year built 1995
Location of boat Escondido Ca.
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, We love our boat, we purchased it used from a couple in Wyoming fresh water only and was stored in a heated shed the boat still has a new smell, the motor only had 80hours. We considerd a new 26m but was turned of by all the extra cost to set it up, We saved a lot buying used boat, it has all the extras and is aleady to sail.
Gear that's been added New marine radio and mast antenna,Ida rudders,Outboard stablizer,front ladder,additional lighting,Amp meter,Mast light,Bilge pump,rear shower,fishing pole holder,Fan.
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features Roomy and comfortabe inside, More(stern)deck space than the 26m, Easy to set up and set sail. Best of all ease of towing.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Old Rudders hit prop and chewed out a piece.
Sailing characterisitcs I like the way it sails, easy to rig, one person can sail it. I like the retractable keel we can easily beach the boat.
Motoring characterisitcs When heavy oceans I expirence alot of spray in the face when motoring full out.
Liveability Nice sleeping areas, sets up easy. We have elec. pump for sink, head is more roomy than the 26m and also has a sink. Table and seats are comfortable.Windows alow just the right amout of light without burning in direct sunlight.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Curtious and helpfull
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any n/a
Other comments Our boat is called "Jolly Mon" if you see us come say Hi, and have a margarita on me....
