Review of the Macgregor 26X by Louis B Holub

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again?	YES ... Owned a Mac26C previously, and liked it also. But, this Mac-X has much better accomodations.
Gear that's been added	depth finder, anchor light, hatch way Air Conditioner (removable), TV-DVD player, 2 fans, Storageable cook stove, AND NATURALLY: a TEXAS and AMERICAN FLAG which are flown proudly.
Structural or complex improvements	Aluminum Wheels, new Tires...Nothing else needed. Boat and engine and trailer are in great shape.
The boat's best features	Seems to be BUILT SOLID. I've found NO FLAWS. The interior space, accomodations, and decor are GREAT. Very comfortable to sail, overnight, or just lounge around on. Boarding the boat when on the TRAILER is easy with the open transom & swim ladder. Cabin is WATER TIGHT, no leakage even during heavy RAIN.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.	ENGINE carbs. were cleaned due to sitting up by the former owner, and lack of usage. I dont favor the "IRON TRAILER" which shouldve been either Aluminum or Galvanized. Eventually, this will be replaced.
Sailing characterisitcs	Handles well, seems to have a little trouble coming about in "LOW WINDS"...My former Mac26C seemed slightly FASTER...but I'm not interested in RACING anyway.
Motoring characterisitcs	NISSAN 50 H.P. does what it's supposed to do...GOES FAST and provides a full range of POWER when NEEDED !!
Liveability	Overnighting is comfortable. Plenty of room for TWO for several days. Its Okay for up to FOUR overnight. Daytime lounging around under the BIMINI on nice cushions is comfortable. Fishing from this boat is PLEASANT !!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)	Ive discussed this boat with a DEALER in BAYTOWN, TEXAS, SAILVENTURE, Inc. The owner, Mr Lance Beauchamp, has been helpful. I bought my previous MAC26C from him, and highly recommend this MacGregor Dealer. Very Knowledgeable ! Always helpful !

Other comments	This WATER BALLAST system is great, allowing one to trailer the boat easily. Why own a big ole LEAD WEIGHTED KEEL that will "SINK" to the bottom. The MAC will float when flooded (with its built in floatation). Nice FAMILY BOAT when instructions are followed !
