Review of the Macgregor 26X by Herb Geller

Year built 2000
Location of boat Lake Lanier, Georgia
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it is a great compromise between sailing and motoring. Not every day has sufficient wind and the motoring alternative can easily save the day.
Gear that's been added 12 volt outlets, roller furling guides, sony portable cd player. Am going to ad
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Dual personality of sail versus power. Ability to beach the boat and have a great time.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs Had one scary experience with heavy winds and a reefed main. After talking with some experienced Mac owners they advised that I should have reefed the jib instead of rolling it in completely.
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability Excellent, except the dog likes the V-birth and so do I.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
