Review of the Macgregor 26X by David Mandrusiak

Year built 1998
Location of boat Alberta
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No I would not buy a macgregor again. The boat is cheaply built and yes you get what you pay for. Cheap junk.
Gear that's been added Sailing gear
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features NONE
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Every thing the boat leaks from every spot on deck that had a hole drilled and something fastened on. The factory must have ran out of silicon when they built mine.
Sailing characterisitcs Poor sailing and handling, feels like Im sailing a bath tub.
Motoring characterisitcs I motor more than sail because it sails so bad. it is a joke to call this a sail boat.
Liveability The only thing this boat has is accomadations
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Poor
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any He is now out of business good thing.
Other comments I waited a long time to afford a new sailboat and when the Macgregor 26x came along I thought this is it. Well I sould of saved my money and waited for this is a pile of junk. The boat cannot get 25 mph with 50hp. Best I or anyone else can do is 16mph tops, empty. If you are looking for a boat don't buy a Macgregor
