Review of the Macgregor 26X by Roff

Year built 1997
Location of boat Camino Island Wa
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 23-30 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Probably not, very frustrating rasing mast with heavy genoa even with mast rasing assembly - not the way to go for seniors.
Gear that's been added Stearing connecting rod - original equipment was a joke.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Wife says head. I say tralerability.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. See above - heavey mylar genoa and no instructions for the added weight and cumbersomness. Mentioned earlier - flimsy stearing connecter.
Sailing characterisitcs Gail force wings in Puget Sound.
Motoring characterisitcs Great to escape irons.
Liveability Good for the size.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) We were urged to purchase a milar genoa for our sailing area - should have given special attention to raising mast with. Instructions deal with only light jb.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any See above. We bought from dealer and were trained by same.
Other comments Would appreciate any help on special techniques for 70 year olds to deal with heavy milar genoa - wifes anxioty goes into the red zone when I suggest taking the boat out.
