Review of the Macgregor 26X by bud richard

Owner bought the boat in	1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again?	not unless it was from a dealer who could offer service and repair!
Gear that's been added	yes lots,all halyards to the cockpit, compass, radio,lazy jacks, spinaker shoot,yahmaha t50 outboard,rewired 12v and instaled 110v and shore power, a second battery, a humingbird 300 fishfinder, garmin gps, a roller furling system, hatch and companion way screens,gally and head shelving, line and boat hook storage, etc. etc. etc. BUT i still can't find how the water gets in to the high side of the starbord bilge when there is no rain and it is even worse when under power?
Structural or complex improvements	no, but I did have to reseal the windows as thay leaked right from the start. dealer was of no help.
The boat's best features	the cabin layout on the 26x is good but should be 6"wider-legal limit in all states is 102".
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.	see above
Sailing characterisitcs	everything from snipes to 68' sloop rigged yawl on inland water and the great lakes, over the past (many years).
Motoring characterisitcs	no go when the engine won't start!
Liveability	Spartan
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)	At the plant fine. The dealer SPARTAN!
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any	not good there is no (dealer in Michigan) that can service, and it dosn't seem that MacGregor wants one. I have asked.
Other comments	We have truly enjoyed our 26X and the weekend camp outs, dispite the water in the S/B bilge
