Yes This was my first sailboat and I had zero experience in sailing.
In the 10 + yrs Ive owner it I made a lot of dumb mistakes without
breaking or sinking the boat.

Gear that's been added
|
All hardware, lines and sails were replaced.
All blocks- Winches- lines - New Doyle main, jig and 150 genoa.
added a Boomkicker - end boom traveler and Garelick motor
bracket. New Radios stereo and VHF.
also replaced old depth sounder.

Structural or complex improvements
|
Changed out the Front hatch which took some glassing and
finishing.
Wanted more light in cabin.
|
The boat's best features
|
It has never broke or sank after my many dumb mistakes
learning to sail in 25 mph wind.
Love the swing keel when grounded or in shallow water.
|
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
|
keel winch handle getting in or out of cabin
|
Sailing characterisitcs
|
when sailing alone I use the mail only and lock the tiller
the boat stays on course for a long time.
The boat is easy to sail with both sails single handed.
|
Motoring characterisitcs
|
I keep my boat in a slip so i need a motor to get in or out of the slip.
When grounded after lifting the keel, rudder and motor ,the motor
will get you free.

The Macgregor is affordable and safe.
It is easy to launch and trailer.
Like I said, I knew nothing about sailing, I learned sailing from this
forum and You Tube videos and I was in my 60s at the time.
If you can find one in good shape go for it..
