Review of the Macgregor 25 by patrickfarley

Year built 1981
Location of boat Lake Lanier, Georgia
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2011
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? This is a good boat to reach many places in shallow water. I still have room to sleep. Yes I would buy it again.
Gear that's been added Anchor holder, bimini, ladder
Structural or complex improvements Anchor holder, Removable ladder on the front of the boat. Allows stepping onto land when beached. Great for winter sailing. Navigation and depth fishfinder. Someday I will rewire the boat.
The boat's best features Quiet sailing. Easy to use. It is easy to transport to the ocean. It is easy to transport to different parts of the ocean. Good for sleeping a few nights. Storage in the driveway when needed. It is great for shallow water.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing
Sailing characterisitcs Quiet sailing. Not the fastest boat but I enjoy getting there.
Motoring characterisitcs It moves well.
Liveability I use the berth as a storage area. I use an inflatable mattress to sleep on in the main cabin. A queen is slightly too big. A full size is perfect. I have a grill that hangs off the rail. I buy a bag of ice each day and have a cooler. It is a great platform for sailing, fishing and watching the world as you anchor just about anywhere.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments The most important addition was a ladder. It allows swimming any time I get too warm. Most important thing is setting up quickly. I have a mast raising system that is made of wood. When I can afford the aluminum tubes to complete the system I will be complete. It takes 15 minutes to set up a motorboat. It takes 38 minutes to set up the sailboat. I plan to make a list to follow and speed up the setup. I have been at a marina for the last couple of years and have been lazy about setup.2019
