Review of the Macgregor 25 by Woody W

Year built 1976
Location of boat Boulder City Nevada Lake Mead
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1976
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutley
Gear that's been added Masthead rigged with heavier extrusion s-106. 110% oversize spinnaker, 525 sq ft. Midboom mainsheet. Teak Rudder.
Structural or complex improvements Cut out PIA galley and glassed in, more room in cabin. Built all interior cabinetry including hanging longer for jackets, etc, folding table and storage shelving along port and starboard sides of cabin.
The boat's best features #1 Trailerable - No Slip Fees, not lakelocked. #2 Well constructed - No "chopper gun" glassing. #3 Comfortable for long trips. Spent a week at Catalina every year. #4 Easy to rig and sail. Good sailing qualities and very forgiving.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs Goes to weather well. In following sea will plane. Have pegged knot meter with chute up.
Motoring characterisitcs Motors well with Honda 7.5hp
Liveability Have lived aboard for a week at a time. Not the Ritz but very comfortable.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very Professional. You don't stay in business for over 40 years without good customer service and product support. Most aftermarkets parts are sold by independent agencies like Blue Water Marine
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought current boat from deal in Marina del Rey, CA. Great guy who locals referred to as the Merchant of Venice.
Other comments Love It
