Review of the Macgregor 22 by Hugh MacRae

Year built 1972
Location of boat Ocean View Delaware
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1993
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I would. I relly learned how to sail on her and have made several improvements.
Gear that's been added Compas, VHF, GPS, propane stove, boom vang, new winches and keel winch,& anchors.
Structural or complex improvements I cut out a 12"by 30" section under the mast step that was rotted and replaced it with 1/2" plywood covered with epoxy and several layers of fiberglass and drilled out all fittings in that area and filled them with epoxy and cabisil to prevent future rot.
The boat's best features Light weight & easy to sail.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails good into wind. I can make headway with wind indicator inside the no sail zone.
Motoring characterisitcs It is difficult to steer the boat with the rudder because it will hit the prop on the outboard when turning to port.
Liveability I have not spent the night in her yet.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) None
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any ----------
Other comments I like the boat and would buy another one just a little bit bigger .
